The Beatles to Release Limited-Edition Single for Record Store Day
- Posted on Apr 8th 2010 6:10AM by Julian Marszalek
Forty years after their much-lamented demise, the Beatles are to release a limited edition vinyl edition of 'Paperback Writer' backed with the psychedelic classic 'Rain' in celebration of this year's Record Store Day on April 17. Presented in a vintage-style paper Parlophone house bag, the single is limited to a run of just 1,000 copies.Joining the Fab Four will be a host of Parlophone artists including Pet Shop Boys, Bat for Lashes, chart-topper Tinie Tempah, Babyshambles, Lily Allen and Hot Chip, all of whom will also be releasing strictly limited-edition vinyl singles. The releases will be exclusive to the independent records stores taking part in the event.
Speaking of the releases, Parlophone President Miles Leonard said, "Parlophone and our artists recognise the importance of our indie stores and their contribution to not only our new and developing artists but to our catalogue as a whole. Being able to support this campaign with some great seven-inch releases from the Beatles to Bat for Lashes is our way of thanking them for their continued support."
Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys added, "Independent record stores play a vital role in selling music from the fringe as well as the mainstream. We're delighted to be releasing a one-off vinyl single only available in independent shops as part of Record Store Day."
As previously reported on Spinner, this year's Record Store Day campaign was launched by a promotional video fronted by Queens Of The Stone Age supremo Josh Homme.

Snoop Dog...sounds like something you buy from a street vendor and eat on the way to a baseball game.

And you can waffle on all day about who could drum better, blah blah blah..Ringo was a SWING beat drummer. The Beatles started as a skiffle band but evolved rapidly. Ringo was PRIMARILY a drummer who also sang etc. He could play 3 chords on a guitar too, but that didn't make him a guitarist. He became a much better drummer during his time as a Beatle...and the Beatles used the Harmonium primarily in later recordings...some people's versions of history are astounding.

The Beatles were a rockers from the get-go (I'm talking after 1960...NOT the Quarrymen era)...Ringo was a drummer from childhood...and light years BETTER than Pete Best, who was so lousy none other than George Martin insisted they replace him before recording their first single.
My favorite 60s band rereleasing two of the most irritating songs ever recorded. Um, no thanks...

I beg to differ. The Beatles remasters are state of the art, and very reasonably priced. If you're still listening on a 20th century sound system you will not hear all the improvements. Got HDMI hookup? lol. try with Oppo Blu-ray player: welcome to the future...
John. You said the Beatles were just a flash in the pan. You are a absolute w****r.

April 08 2010 at 3:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyTHE BEATLES WERE WITHOUT QUESTION THE BEST. BUT LETS NOT FORGET BANDS OF THE 60'S AND 70'S THAT WERE GREAT TOO. I DONT NEED TO HEAR A DJ RECENTLY PRAISING THE BAND "BAND COMPANY" BY PLAYING "COME AND GET IT"!
