PS22 Chorus Covers Beach House's 'Zebra'

How's this for your adorable, life-affirming musical moment of the day? The PS22 Chorus, that amazing music program based in Staten Island where kids sing their heart out to the brightest songs of the day, has posted a new cover of Beach House's 'Zebra.' Off the group's 'Teen Dream' album, 'Zebra' is the lush lead single based around stuttering and swirling vocals that are perfect for the choral treatment. These fifth-graders really take it to the next level with those two-part harmonies, though. PS22 has garnered over 15 million YouTube hits for their video covers of classics and new music. Other recent favorites include the choir's take on Jay-Z's 'Empire State of Mind' and Phoenix's 'Lisztomania,' as well as versions of standbys from the Talking Heads and the Beatles. This is the group's first take on a Beach House song, and the band seemed absolutely thrilled when they came across the link of kids swaying through such a beautiful interpretation of their track.
"This is one of the best things ever to happen to us!" wrote Beach House singer Victoria Legrand on the band's Twitter and Facebook pages.
"Thanks to the band for such amazing validation for all the hard work our kids our doing!" responded director Gregg Breinberg on the choir's website. Check out the clip below.

According to me, Unlike Wes Anderson, who over-borrowed from Satyajit Ray scores in the Darjeeling Limited, Tarantino used this one theme in a highly editorial way. This is not the equivalent of a mash-up; it's more like sampling, when an artist takes a snippet of pop culture and reappropriates it in an intelligent/meaningful way.
