Franz Ferdinand Singer 'Busted' by Mexican Cops

Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos has apparently been in trouble for boozing in public. The Scottish band have just completed a tour of Latin America in support of their 2009 album 'Tonight: Franz Ferdinand' and the singer admitted his run in with the law via Twitter following the group's April 10 show in the Mexican capital."Just been busted by Mexico City cops for drinking tequila in street," he wrote. "All fine." Technically it is illegal to drink alcohol in public in Mexico, although many people do so in tourist areas. In a later Twitter missive, Kapranos inferred a little light bribery may have been involved in the "all fine" coda to the incident.
"My American friend Grant sorted it," he wrote. "My friend Grant, for those who haven't met him -- Mexican cops seem to hold him in high regard." This appears to be a reference to Ulysses S. Grant, who led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War, and who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. Grant's face appears on the US $50 bill.
Local police permitting, Franz Ferdinand's next engagement will be at Murcia, Spain's SOS 4.8 Festival on April 30.

The best of all is that we gave him that tequila as a gift some minutes before the show, ha, ha! We're guilty too...

April 13 2010 at 10:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYet another Spinner story about a no one from a who-the-hell-are-they? band. And if he had been shooting up heroin in the street, the corrupt, drug cartel-controlled Mexican police wouldn't have cared.

April 13 2010 at 2:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou have people being kidnapped and held for ransome, donkey shows, drug cartels that run the country, people being tortured and butchered like animals. Why would you even want to go there?? Mexioco and the rest of the world are not the place they were 20-30-40 years ago! Stay in the US, put your vacation money back into the US!!
April 13 2010 at 2:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMexicans were here long before the Vikings or Columbus landed in the Americas. Next time you eat at a high end resturant, looks who is cooking your food. They couldn't wipe out the Mexican like they did with the American indian in rhe USA. WE are lucky to have Mexico as a neighbor, no 9/11 terrorist came thru Mexico. They came thru Canada. Plus if the Mexican is so it's because after years of being screwed by Americans, they learn to give right back.Illegal drug usage is the American fault if they quit using, there would be no market for it. If the Americans were not so greedy they pay higher wages other Americans to do the job that illegals do. Things only exist if we let it exist.
