Hot Chip Throw Coachella's Biggest Dance Party

Hot Chip are the answer to modern-day disco. The U.K. electro pop act created Coachella 2010's biggest dance party Saturday evening in front of the festival's Outdoor Stage, crafting a high-energy and hour-long set out of their danceable love songs. Frontman Alexis Taylor crooned to the crowd, "I only want one life / together in our arms ... nothing is wasted / and life is worth living / heaven is nowhere / just look to the stars," during crowd-pleaser 'I Feel Better.' Feel the love yet?Hot Chip didn't let the music stop for a second, continuously segueing from the delicate group harmonies of 'We Have Love' off the band's recently released fourth album 'One Life Stand,' to the more punchy, Devo-esque 'Hold On,' off their third album 'Made in the Dark.'
Comprised of five members and a jubilee of synthesizers, Hot Chip create moody, yet groovy tracks set at 'Soul Train' tempos and built sonically around Taylor's soft falsettos. Every once in awhile during the gig, Hot Chip ditched their playful melodrama for more upbeat tempos, like closer 'Ready for the Floor,' which even had guitarist and singer doing a side-by-side, synchronized shuffle.
"It's our third time at Coachella," Taylor told the crowd, "and this is the most fun we've ever had." It was a sentiment the crowd would readily agreed with.
