Led Zeppelin 'Stairway to Heaven' UK's Favourite Rock Song?
- Posted on Apr 19th 2010 8:35AM by Matt Glazebrook
When it comes to rock anthems, it seems bigger is better -- at least in the view of listeners to digital radio's Absolute Classic Rock. Led Zeppelin's eight-minute opus 'Stairway to Heaven' has topped a poll conducted by the station to find Britain's favourite rock song. The 1971 tune beat the Who's equally unwieldy 'Won't Get Fooled Again' into second place, while Queen's relatively slimline 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (at just six minutes long) ranked third.
Led Zeppelin occupy three spots in Absolute Classic Rock's Top 10, with 'Whole Lotta Love' and 'Rock and Roll' ranking fourth and seventh, respectively. The Who also have two appearances in the chart, with another of their 'Who's Next' epics -- 'Baba O'Riley' -- featuring in sixth place.
The Beatles and the Rolling Stones only managed to snag ninth and 10th places on the rundown, with the tunes 'Revolution' and 'Gimme Shelter,' respectively. Clearly both bands should have thought about adding a few extra minutes to their compositions.
Although we're not sure what the listenership's preferences for long, uninterrupted stretches of music says about the quality of Absolute Classic Rock's DJs.

No-one heard Jethro Tull AQUALUNG?
Oh please, this group is so old.
They are all in their wheelchairs, or dead.
Please can we have less of old old, groups,
people who were fans are dead. for gods sake.
We might be old, but at least our music period in the now 21st. century was the standard for whatever you might call your music today. !! Maybe Muse, but gee there music was from the love of Queen ? and there a little dead to. What comes close to the late 60's early 70's music ? Nada ! If many read you quote you would be busy reading reply's for days.
