Details of Malcolm McLaren's funeral have been reported by the NME. The former Sex Pistols manager died on April 8, aged 64, after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, an uncommon form of cancer, at the end of 2009.McLaren's funeral takes place April 22 and will be marked by an hour-long public funeral cortege, beginning in Camden, London, UK, at 1:15PM (GMT) and leading to Highgate Cemetery in the north of the city, where he will be buried in a private service.
Joseph Corré, McLaren's son with fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and founder of lingerie company Agent Provocateur, issued a statement via Humanade, the human rights charity he runs. He encouraged people to mark his rabble-rousing father's passing by raising some hell. "In celebration of Malcolm's life we are asking people to observe a MINUTE OF MAYHEM at midday on 22nd April. Put on your favourite records and let it RIP!"
In addition, Humanade have produced a commemorative T-shirt, emblazoned with the slogan 'Cash From Chaos,' as worn by McLaren while performing the Max Bygraves song 'You Need Hands' in the 1980 Sex Pistols mockumentary, 'The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle.' Appropriately enough, the scene was filmed in Highgate Cemetery. All proceeds go to Humanade.
