Soundgarden Play Secret Reunion Gig

Soundgarden reunited in Seattle on Friday, April 16, to play their first show since they disbanded 13 years ago.For a secret gig at the city's long-standing, 1,000-capacity Showbox at the Market venue, the grunge pioneers were billed as Nudedragons -- an anagram of their proper band name. Nonetheless, tickets were snapped up instantly and several of their peers made it in, including Mudhoney's Mark Arm and Sub Pop founder Jonathan Poneman.
As reported in Spinner, Chris Cornell announced his old band's comeback in January, and Soundgarden are already confirmed for this year's Lollapalooza, which could prove to be an intriguing date, not least because the rockers are co-headlining with Lady Gaga.
Blabbermouth.net has posted audio and a set list of last week's show that suggests a leaning towards the band's early, more indie-sounding years. They declined to play their biggest hit, 'Black Hole Sun,' instead rolling out their 1987 debut single 'Hunted Down' plus the B-side 'Nothing to Say.'
Perhaps in deference to Poneman, Soundgarden concentrated on the releases Sub Pop put out before they become one of the first grunge bands to sign to a major label. Cue numbers from the late '80s and early '90s, many from their 'Ultramega OK' and 'Louder Than Love' albums.

April 20 2010 at 1:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWeird. There are a few bands who are popular that I only like certain elements of: With soundgarden, it was Chris Cornell's awesome vocals. Everything else about that band I am not into and cannot relate to their songs... (spoonman was kinda good).
Another band was Rage Against The Machine. HATE De La Rocha's vocals/rap styles.... but loved the musicianship of the rest of the band... especially Morello's guitar work... and then DAMN!!!!!! Along came Audioslave ... which now are in hiatus (?) or now "defunked" and now sad to see that Rage are "Re-funked"... sorry for the bad pun...
I'M 55 and I love Soundgarten

Superunknown was a critical and commercial success and became the band's breakthrough album. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and reached high positions on charts worldwide. Five singles were released from the album: "The Day I Tried to Live", "My Wave", "Fell on Black Days", "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun", the latter two of which won Grammy Awards and helped Soundgarden reach mainstream popularity. In 1995, the album was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. The album has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA in the United States and remains Soundgarden's most successful album.
Although I was never as big a fan of them as I was of Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins or Nirvana, Soundgarden was cool. If they put out a new cd I will definitely check it out.
It seems the radio station here doesn't play any Soundgarden anymore though. Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, The Day I tried to Live... maybe it's on classic rock stations now.

you confused a pop band called savage garden, which is from australia. they disbanded a few years back. either. for a pop band, they were really good.
soundgarden is a grunge/heavy rock band from seattle washington. they were the first band to sign to sub pop records with a contract. you cannot go wrong with songs like jesus christ pose and outshine. they are one of the groups i never got to see as a teenager growing up in the 90's.
if you were confusing the two trying to be funny, great. if not...
NEVER HEARD OF THEM, HOW MANY SONGS DID THEY HAVE THAT WENT PLATINUM AND GOLD ?
