Patti Smith has been announced as one of the three headliners for this year's Hyde Park Serpentine Sessions -- an alternative festival for those prefer a summer evening park setting for a gig, without the raucous nature or muddy potential of most big rock bashes. The "Godmother of Punk" will be headlining the second night of the event on June 29, accompanied by her touring band.
Also confirmed to headline are Grizzly Bear, who will perform on June 28. It will be the folkrock four-piece's biggest UK show to date, before they headline the Word Arena at this July's Latitude festival.
The final headline act will be Laura Marling, whose second album 'I Speak Because I Can,' recently reached Number Four in the UK charts. The English folk singer will appear on July 1.
The inaugural Serpentine Sessions in 2009 saw Bon Iver, Tindersticks and Regina Spektor headline. Big Star also played their last UK gig before frontman Alex Chilton's death earlier this year, as support to Tindersticks.
Support acts for 2010 are yet to be confirmed. Tickets for all three shows, priced from £27.50 ($42.40), go on sale on Friday April 23.
