Crystal Castles Bring Album Release Date Forward After Internet Leak

Crystal Castles [pictured] have brought forward the release date of their self-titled new album, which will now come out digitally on Friday, April 23. The physical release of the LP -- originally scheduled for June 7 -- has been advanced two weeks to May 24.The change in release dates follows the Internet leak earlier this week of the Toronto glitch-core specialists' album, the follow-up to their also self-titled debut, released to much critical acclaim in 2008.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe on April 20, frontman Ethan Kath responded jovially to a question about the availability of the record on the web -- albeit in quite low quality. He said, "I was going to download it too, but I thought it'd be cooler to wait till Friday, when it comes out on iTunes."
The band have already released new album track, 'Doe Deer,' on 7-inch as part of Record Store Day on April 17. Another track from the album, 'Celestica,' will also be released as a single in the forthcoming weeks, details to be confirmed.
Crystal Castles are the latest in a long line of artists who have brought the release dates of albums forward due to leaks. Deftones recently brought forward the release of 'Diamond Eyes' to May 4, Jay-Z advanced the release of 'The Blueprint 3' in September 2009 and most recently on April 14, LCD Soundsystem decided to stream 'This Is Happening' via their website after urging fans not to leak it ahead of its May 17 release date.
According to NME.com, at a gig at Webster Hall in New York on April 12, LCD Soundsytem frontman James Murphy said, "If you got a copy of the record early and you feel like sharing it with the rest of the world, then please don't. We spent two years making this record and we want to put it out when we want to put it out. I don't care about money – after it comes out, give it to whoever you want for free but until then, keep it to yourself."
