Paul Weller Does Battle With ACDC for UK Number 1

Paul Weller and AC/DC have revved up the old "mods against rockers" rivalry as the two acts slug it out for pole position in the UK album charts -- and if mid-week chart report is anything go by, the "Modfather" could well be the one popping the corks when the results are declared on Sunday, April 25.Currently holding the top spot is Weller's tenth studio solo album, 'Wake Up The Nation', which reports UK sales to date of 23,917 and was released by Island Records on April 19. The singer hopes to repeat the success of his former chart topper, 2008's '22 Dreams.'
ACDC's 'Iron Man 2 OST' -- released on the same day -- is holding the No. 2 position, marginally ahead of last week's official No. 1, Plan B's 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks,' with sales of 15,821.
Should Weller secure the top slot, 'Wake Up the Nation' will be his sixth solo No. 1 album. AC/DC's last LP, 2008's 'Black Ice,' -- their first collection of original material since 2000's 'Stiff Upper Lip' -- topped the charts in a staggering 29 countries upon its release. Quite how well 'Iron Man 2 OST' does remains to be seen but for a collection of previously released material that the band insists is not a 'Greatest Hits' or 'Best Of,' they're still doing pretty darn well.
