Trash talking has become acceptable to many young people. The worst is when some punk verbally abuses a girl, something that happens in public places way too often. I wonder how others feel about this kind of intimidation. To me it's a form of terrorism, meant to cause fear while boosting the ego of the abuser. I can be patient with emotional outbursts in public but not verbal abuse. Unfortunately it seems that most others turn their backs on such behavior. Why? What's so difficult about gently telling someone that their language and attitude are not acceptable? If you feel the need for support, look around for someone else whose face shows concern and ask him/her to join you in speaking to the abuser.

Someone previously commented that "we all swaer sdometimes." We beg to differ with such an inaccurate generalization. This brings back a memory from my childhood when I was about 9 or 10 years old and a said something unacceptable. I was in our back yard in Englishtown, NJ, and my parents did not keep soap in our yard. However, it seemed that no sooner did the curse emanate from my lips that my mother did the old-fashioned "wash my mouth out with soap" action, afterwhich she asked me why I had said what I said.
I gave some stupid response which I remember today, and I am now 72 years old. I can honestly state that I was cured for life on swearing. I think I can still taste the soap between my teeth, even though I no longer have the same teeth now that I had 62 or 63 years ago. My dear wife, and many other friends and relatives of ours are gratefully not afflicted with that habit, all by the grace and mercy of God, whose love and blessings are available to all who trust in and call upon Him for salvation. The Lord bless and encourage all of you.

I should not type late when I am tired, and I should always double proofread whatever I have to say. Look at that, now I am apologizing. It's good for our humility to admit when we are wrong. Who was it who said that he (or she) had made a mistake and then discovered that he (or she) was wrong and hadn't made a mistake after all?
