Spotify Joins Forces With Apple and Facebook

Spotify has annouced a major overhaul of its music streaming service. In a post on its website this morning, the Swedish company described the new version as "a total music management platform."The major new development is the addition of a social feature, called Spotify Music Profile, that allows subscribers to link up their Facebook and iTunes libraries.
Speaking to BBC 6Music, Spotify founder Daniel Ek [pictured] said, "We've made Spotify social. We've enabled people to share music through their friends on Facebook really, really simply, and we've also managed to make it so you can play your own music through the Spotify client."
In addition, Spotify has teamed up with Apple to allow iTunes users to merge their music libraries into Spotify. Again speaking to 6Music, Ek explained, "With a mouse click you can import (your music library into) Spotify and you can share your library with your friends, so that they can see what you're listening to and they can also play the music."
Ek concluded, "We've married the best of Facebook and iTunes and also on top of that, we added a library with more than seven million tracks which people can discover, so that is Spotify today and the next generation of Spotify."
The updates are available now.
