Green Day Re-Release 'American Idiot' With Cast of Musical in UK

Green Day's release of a re-recorded version of their landmark 2004 album 'American Idiot,' featuring the cast of the new Broadway musical based on the record, hits the UK on May 10.

The new LP, recorded at New York's Electric Lady Studios, goes by the name of 'American Idiot -- Original Broadway Cast Recording.' It also features songs from Green Day's last album '21st Century Breakdown,' some of which made it into the critically acclaimed, award-nominated musical production. The California trio had help in refining the album's sound from the director of the musical, Tom Kitt.

The musical opened in Green Day's home town of Berkeley, Calif., in September 2009, before making its Broadway debut in April this year. The cast performed with Green Day at the Grammy Awards in January, as well as teaming up for a special version of '21 Guns' for download release. A film version of the musical is also rumoured to be in the offing, to be directed by Tom Hanks.

Billie Joe Armstrong and cohorts, meanwhile, are preparing for a stadium tour of the UK this summer, kicking off on June 16.
