Calling it an "attempt by their record label to attract attention to the band using a ridiculous dinosaur" -- who happens to be named Frank -- the Akron, Ohio duo "feel the dinosaur puppet lip syncing to their song is demeaning to the soul of their new record," 'Brothers,' which lands May 18. Furthermore, the Black Keys "disavow any responsibility for it and wish you would stop watching." Here's a hint: Don't listen to them.
Whether this clip is quality art or just the degradation of women by the Mesozoic Era's most ferocious predator is up to the viewer to decide. For band's part, guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach says he and drummer Patrick Carney were inspired by the "spooky sounds" and "dark grooves" of Alice Coltrane for their sixth studio offspring. Broken Bells and Gnarls Barkley virtuoso Danger Mouse even lends production help to 'Tighten Up,' which is currently streaming at the band's MySpace page.
Recorded at the three locations -- the legendary Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama, Auerbach's hometown lab Easy Eye Sound System and Brooklyn's the Bunker -- the album will be taken on the road beginning this summer. After an opening slot with Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden on May 20, the duo will be playing with Brian Olive, the Flaming Lips, the Morning Benders, Kings of Leon, the Whigs and Nicole Atkins throughout the summer, including a streak of recently added tour stops beginning July 24 in Cleveland, Ohio. Check the dates here, and watch the video for 'Next Girl' below.
