On Monday, a judge sentenced Natavia Lowery to a prison term of 27 years to life for the murder of her boss, one-time Ramones manager Linda Stein (pictured). According to the Huffington Post, the judge called Lowery "almost inhuman" during sentencing, while Lowery continued to appear unapologetic, insisting on her innocence and announcing her intention to appeal. As Spinner previously reported, in February a jury found Lowery guilty of second-degree murder for bludgeoning Stein to death on October 30, 2007. The murder took place in Stein's Manhattan apartment and a piece of exercise equipment was identified as the weapon. Following her influential stint managing the Ramones, Stein had become a real estate broker whose client list included Billy Joel, Madonna and Sting. She hired Lowery as a personal assistant but then discovered that Lowery -- whose criminal record includes identity theft and embezzlement -- had been stealing from her.
Lowery once confessed to the murder in a videotaped statement but later recanted that confession and pleaded her innocence. The Associated Press reports that Lowery's stepfather now faces a criminal contempt charge for a courtroom disturbance during the trial.
