Florence and the Machine Debut New Material in Dublin

A little success can go a long way. In the case of Florence and the Machine it means the introduction of a string quartet and the ability to play 'Swimming.' Beginning her European tour with two sold-out shows at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin on Sunday, May 2 and Monday, May 3, the singer said of the song, "We could never play that song in the past because we couldn't afford a string quartet."
According to NME.com, Florence also introduced a new song in the shape of 'Strangeness and Charm' which she described as "about seven minutes long and pretty relentless." As previously reported in Spinner, the singer has been working on the follow-up to her hugely successful debut, the Mercury Award-nominated 'Lungs,' with producer Paul Epworth and claimed that the new song -- which received its live debut at the gig -- had been inspired by two atomic particles.
The gig ended in a celebratory mood. Having dispensed with the hits 'You've Got the Love' and 'Dog Days Are Over,' Florence ended the encore with 'Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)' before spending around five minutes throwing the fake flowers from her stage set. Still, with those royalties rolling in, their replacements are unlikely to break the bank.
