In an interview on XFM, the Bloc Party frontman explained why he had recently shaved his head. "I was doing a Britney. I'd had enough and I needed to start again," he said. "I was having a meltdown. I was attacking photographers with my umbrella and not being so good to myself."
Britney Spears publicly took a razor to her locks when she had a breakdown in 2007 and was hospitalised, though Okereke seems to be being more flippant. He is, after all, still committed to his first solo UK tour, along with a couple of warm-up slots before his Glastonbury appearance.
Set to release a solo album as Kele, the Bloc Party frontman plays The Plug in Sheffield on June 11 and Brighton's Digital on June 24 before he plays Glastonbury Festival's John Peel Stage on June 25.
Okereke then embarks on a nine-date tour, starting at Leeds Cockpit on July 1. As reported on Spinner, his first solo album, 'The Boxer,' is released June 21 on Wichita/Polydor, with its creator promising a more electronic sound than his main band, thanks to his experiences DJing and listening to dance music.
'The Boxer' is preceded by single 'Tenderoni' the week before.
