Carly Simon Picks Winner in 'You're So Vain' Video Contest
- Posted on May 5th 2010 4:05PM by Mike Ayers
Hardly any other song in the pop music canon has been debated as much as Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain.' People have been obsessed with its meaning since it first appeared back in December 1972. Now, 37-and-a-half years later, it has an official video. Spinner, along with the Tribeca Film Festival and Simon's record label, Iris Records, selected Brett Bisogno's video from hundreds submitted in an online contest to showcase the iconic song. Eschewing any of the wild theories that have permeated the song's discussion over the years, Bisogno takes a simple approach: Simon is featured throughout, merrily singing along as a mysterious figure dances, jaunts and runs away from his own life. We never get a great look at him until the end -- and only then, as the video fades out, do we learn who the mysterious dude is. It's a quick-moving yet simple ode to the intrigue that's surrounded the song's legacy, even while avoiding any direct statements about any figures it may or may not be about.
For his efforts, Bisogno took home a $10,000 prize. Check out his winning video after the jump.
