Friendly Fires Blast MGMT Over Second Album
- Posted on May 5th 2010 7:30AM by Julian Marszalek
Friendly Fires have blasted MGMT and have vowed not to make a similar radical change in the way that they sound or write music. The Hertfordshire indie-dance trio of Ed Mcfarlane, Jack Savidge and Edd Gibson are currently in the middle of recording the follow-up to their Brit and Mercury Prize-nominated eponymous debut album and are determined to avoid what they view as the pratfall of shabby, lo-fi meanderings they say have affected the Brooklyn-based psychedelic pop duo's second release, 'Congratulations.'
Speaking to the Daily Record, Gibson said, "I really hope we are not going to do what MGMT did. Whatever it is they have done, we want to steer well clear of it. I don't understand why they would make such a leap, go from great pop songs to just any old acoustic music played in anyone's bedroom."
Fans will be able to judge for themselves as Friendly Fires have promised to air new material at the RockNess festival in Scotland next month.
Gibson said, "We will definitely air at least one new song at RockNess. Maybe more. We have finished four songs completely and we are really pleased with them, they're better than the first record for sure."

I agree...Friendly Fires is great and MGMT is just too hazy and removed from melody.

Whew, it's a good thing Friendly Fires haven't quite learned what music is or I'd be forced to actually search for some type of merit in their opinion.
