Interpol Bassist Carlos D Quits the Band
- Posted on May 10th 2010 4:55AM by Julian Marszalek
With an almost cruel sense of timing, bassist Carlos D -- that'll be Carlos Dengler to his mum -- has quit Interpol after 13 years with the band. The news comes after New York's melancholic rockers gave fans a teaser of their upcoming new album last week in the form of a free download, 'Lights.'A statement on the band's website reads, "After the completion of the album, Carlos informed the rest of us that he would be leaving the band. He has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals."
The band, set to tour with U2 this summer, insists the parting of the ways is far from acrimonious, saying, "This separation is amicable, and we wholeheartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual."
The band told fans to expect some interesting developments. "We can tell you that we have some very exciting new recruits joining us on the road. So stay tuned -- we will promptly be revealing the identities of these illustrious players."
Quite who these are likely to be are, of course, open to speculation but high on the fantasy wish-list must surely be one-time Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook whose indelible and inspirational bass lines are daubed all over Interpol's works. Spinner can only dream.

Interpol have been around since the early 2000's. They have put out 3 albums with rave results. They take the Joy Division sound and mix more shimmering guitars and evocative lyrics. They are nothing special live, but recorded make for great driving music.
Carlos D is a great bass player and it will take a lot to fill his shoes. Why they would tour with U2 is beyond me. Nothing U2 has done for over 20 years has been anything worth mention. Maybe this will get them some over 40 fans, ha ha.
To Gary Ban. If I was in a band that was in venue with U-2 (I'm not a U-2 fan either. They're too liberal) I'd consider that an excellent worthwile real job. Just my opinion.

May 11 2010 at 12:11 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe music business is horrible. That bass player probably got a real job that pays real money and has a real future. Join the MILLIONS of talented people who were better musicians and better writers than U2 who play on weekends as a fun hobby. Tying your fate to four other musicians, and a blood sucking promotional machine is no path to security.
