Singer, brawler, fashion mogul and now movie producer: Liam Gallagher is apparently set to bring his unique cultural vision to the silver screen. The big surprise here is the budding celluloid tycoon's choice of project: A biopic of the Beatles' final years. Who knew Gallagher was a fan of the Fab Four? The Oasis frontman's debut effort as a movie money man will see him help bring Richard DiLello's 1972 book 'The Longest Cocktail Party: An Insider's Diary of the Beatles, Their Million Dollar Apple Empire and Its Wild Rise and Fall' to the cinema.
He will be working in partnership with Revolution Films, the small UK outfit who is nevertheless responsible for a number of notable releases including the Michael Winterbottom pictures '24 Hour Party People' and 'Wonderland,' and Stephen Fry's directorial effort 'Bright Young Things.'
Gallagher and his estranged brother Noel have apparently both described DiLello's account of Apple Corps and the Beatles circa 1967-70 as "f---ing brilliant" at one time or another. Liam and Revolution's film version will be announced officially at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off in the French resort on Wednesday, May 12. Details of the movie's cast, director and title are not expected to be revealed at that time.
