Disco Biscuits, Umphrey's McGee and STS9 Headed to Mayan Riviera

The Disco Biscuits (pictured), Umphrey's McGee and their respective diehard fans have spent a weekend during the last three Decembers in Jamaica as part of Caribbean Holidaze -- a high-end festival produced by Cloud 9 Adventures, the company behind Jam Cruise. It was a fun run and certainly the bands and their fans have made many friends on the island. But after three years at the same spot, it's time to move on. "Having taken our fans to Jamaica -- and Amsterdam before that -- with Umphrey's, multiple times, I am so excited to go on an adventure to a new place but with the old friends," Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein tells Spinner. So this year, Holidaze moves to the mainland. Specifically, the destination event is headed to the Now Sapphire Resort in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico from January 20-24, 2011. "It's so cool to get to share that one thing with the fans," says Brownstein. "The idea that we are going to a foreign land together for the first time."
In addition to the Disco Biscuits and Umphrey's McGee, Mayan Holidaze will also welcome STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector Nine) to the fold. All three bands will perform two full two-set shows throughout the event and they will each also offer additional, special performances: an acoustic set by STS9, an instrumental set by the Biscuits and an all-request set by Umphrey's. Special guests, excursions, and artist-hosted vacation activities will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Mayan Riviera is pretty close to Cancun, but Mayan Holidaze sounds like it'll be a thousand times cooler than spring break ever was. For additional daydream material, check out the official website and, um, start filling your piggy bank.
