Concert for the Coast to Donate All Profits to Oil Spill Relief

Despite the massive Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Hangout Beach Music and Arts Festival will not only still be on this weekend, but the festival will donate 100 percent of the profits to Gulf Coast relief. Now titled the "Concert for the Coast," the festivities will take place in Gulf Shores, Ala. from May 14 to May 16, as well as a one-night gig in New Orleans on Sunday. The Roots, Ray LaMontagne, Trey Anastasio and TAB, Girl Talk, Ozomatli, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and the Zac Brown Band are just some of the acts set to play this weekend's festival. New Orleans natives and jazz pioneers Preservation Hall Jazz Band are also scheduled to play in both cities.
"The Gulf Coast is what makes the Hangout Music Festival so unique," said Shaul Zislin, co-creator of the festival. "It is one of the most pristine coastlines in all of America, and we will donate every penny above our costs to keep it clean."
For those who don't want the Hangout to end, the Gulf Shores gigs will move from the beach to an indoor location after 11PM CT. Alex B, Gift of Gab and Big Gigantic are set to perform at Friday's after-hours dance party. Meanwhile, Keller Williams will be doing a special set for the Rex Foundation and Mobile Keeper. Tickets must be purchased in advanced with a suggested $5 donation via either Williams' website or hangoutmusicfest.com.
Tickets to Concert for the Coast will cost you $79 a day or $159 for a three-day pass.

I was going to stay through the weekend, but found out the concert completely took over the public beach with no other alternate access for the public. This is the most amateurish logistics I've seen for a venue, unless the whole purpose is to maximize profit - meaning, after the organizers pay themselves the base salary and bonuses known as "costs and expenses," the leftover money, aka "profit," will be donated. The several dozen car-sized diesel generators powering the concert makes me laugh that the organizers pretend to care about the environment. It's like KFC supporting Breast Cancer Research. This purely a Public Relations move, and I hope they make tons of money because I'm never returning to Gulf Shores and its subpar tourist-trap restaurant food.
