Devo Announce 'Song Study' Results at Live Press Conference
- Posted on May 18th 2010 3:00PM by Benjy Eisen
Geeky New Wave rockers Devo -- whose name is shorthand for "de-evolution" -- have launched a comeback this year by very pointedly going as mainstream as possible, even going so far as to crowdsource the tracklist for their upcoming album. In the past, such tactics might've been called selling out; in Devo's case, it's just another one of their deliciously ironic antics.Recently, the band -- which is now branding themselves as the musical division of DEVO Inc. -- launched a "Song Study" where they polled their audience to determine which of their new songs would potentially be the most popular. The study was, in part, an effort to narrow their 16 newly recorded tracks down to just 12 -- the optimal number of songs for an optimal length product, at least according to the bosses at corporate. The results of the 'Song Study' are revealed below in an exclusive Webcast.
"Your attendance is essential in our endeavor to make your consumer experience more enjoyable and satisfying as we go forward," reads a statement from an unnamed DEVO Inc. research consultant who claims he is a representative of the musical division. "An assembly of journalists, historians and various concerned citizens will be on hand at a non-disclosed corporate meeting center outside of Akron, Ohio to document this special DEVO Inc. moment as it is transmitted throughout the world."
Tune in below to watch the groundbreaking event live -- unless, of course, you have an original-issue red Energy Dome, in which case we believe you'll be able to pick up the signal directly.
