The Roots Bring in Dirty Projectors for 'How I Got Over'

When Dirty Projectors stopped by 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' last year, Roots drummer and band leader Questlove was more than a little impressed with the group. He took to his well-read Twitter account and posted a video of the band doing its wildly intricate staccato harmonies backstage. Fans immediately started speculating that a collaboration between the groups wouldn't be too far off. Finally, there's proof that Dirty Projectors have joined the Roots in the studio to work on some interludes for the hip-hop group's upcoming 'How I Got Over,' their 11th full-length. In two recent tweets, Questlove posted a picture and video of all three female Dirty Projectors vocalists -- Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian and Haley Dekle -- in the studio with Quest. For the photo, he wrote, "My 3 favorite genius sirens ... of the dirty projectors doing the intro of the best 11th album ever."
'How I Got Over' appears to be something of a departure for the Roots. Other indie-approved guests include Jim James and the Monsters of Folk, as well as Joanna Newsom, who makes an appearance on a track called 'Right On' that chops and flips a sample from her beautiful song, 'Book of Right-On.'
'How I Got Over' is slated to arrive via Def Jam on June 22.
