It's like 1996 all over again. A group of indie rock's blokeiest blokes are setting out to provide the soundtrack to the England football team's World Cup campaign this summer. The likes of Doves, Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie, Starsailor's James Walsh and ex-Stone Roses bass player Mani will spin tunes and play gigs to coincide with screenings of England's matches at London's Relentless Garage.Mani will DJ at a showing of England's opener against the USA on June 12, while Doves members will man the decks as the national team take on Algeria on June 18, NME reports.
Broudie will perform a live set in conjunction with the final group game against Algeria on June 23, while an appearance from Walsh is dependent on England successfully progressing to the quarter finals of the tournament. Rooney's ankle willing, the Starsailor singer will provide the perfect musical backing to an inevitable penalty shoot-out defeat on either July 2 or 3. Other scheduled performers/DJs include the Twang, Kid British and the Rifles.
The line-up is as follows:
England vs USA: Kid British (live), Mani (DJ set) (June 12)
England vs Algeria: Doves (DJ set), Sound Of Guns Live (June 18)
England vs Slovenia: Ian Broudie (live), The Twang (DJ set) (June 23)
Possible England second round match: The Rifles (live), Jersey Budd (live), Soccer AM DJs (June 26 or 27)
Possible England quarter final: James Walsh (live), TBA
