Ronnie James Dio Memorial to Be Picketed by Westboro Baptist Church
- Posted on May 21st 2010 12:10AM by Chris Cope
Westboro Baptist Church has claimed that it is planning to picket the public memorial of Ronnie James Dio, who died this month from stomach cancer. The infamous church from Kansas, who have a history of well-documented hatred towards homosexuals, are planning to protest at the memorial in Hollywood on May 30, citing that the singer is a "Satan worshipper."
In a statement released on Thursday, May 20, the church said the ex-Rainbow/Black Sabbath singer used his status and platform to "teach rebellion against God, in the form of glorying atheism, promoting the devil hand sign and other such idolatries."
The statement also read, "The arrogant God-hating fool changed his name from Padavona to Dio (meaning "God" in Italian). His Black Sabbath fans worshipped him as a god. He stood idly by & watched his niece, Gen Padavona, become a filthy porn star. God's promises are true, including his promise to punish the wicked forever."
As previously reported on Spinner, the public memorial for Dio, who was 67, will take place on May 30 at The Hall of Liberty on Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles.
Wendy Dio, the singer's manager and wife, has requested in lieu of sending flowers, people should instead donate to the Ronnie James Dio 'Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund' by sending donations to: Niji Entertainment Group, 12400 Ventura Blvd. #624, Studio City, CA 91604, USA.

I've read each of your comments, and I couldn't agree more, that these so-called 'christians' are clearly manipulating the Bible to fulfill and feed their own selfish, hateful desires. While it's very tempting to stoop down to their levels and retort some quick and easy comeback to their insults, I won't.
Instead I will raise the horns, and be proud, that I'm a Jewish metalhead, aware and still in awe of the mighty Ronnie James Dio, and send to him perfect peace. (Not for long, though, since I have faith he's teaching the angels now to raise their own horns and rock every bit as awesome as he did while with us!LOL)
My condolescences to Wendy, as well as all his family and friends and fans.
CHRIST DIED FOR RONNIE'S SIN'S TOO....

It is people like this that are the reason why my 12 year old daughter is terrified of religion, by her own will....not ours. Unlike these cults who call themselves "churches", we do not believe in brain washing children. When will these terrorists realize that their behavior is counter productive to their so called "cause" and missions to spread the love of god??? They are only spreading HATE, and are the most dangerous and disgusting people on earth!!

is by far their only means of seeking the attention they crave.Once they have gained that attention,it well then be used, against, the many people attending the memorial.
It is also a golden opportunity, for the media aswell.
This clan/cult,need to be seen and heard,at any cost!
As such, they will try do this,at the Memorial for R.J.D. People are grieving, aswell as sad, depressed,
and angry.it is totally normal behaviour.Once a person passes on,there are several stages that people go through.Shock,Grieving,Dis-Belief,Anger,Depression,
and finally Acceptance. This Westboro cult/clan,is quite aware, regarding the feelings, of the people/fans, which will be attending the Memorial.
This has nothing to do with religion. These people are ill! Mislead, lost, aswell as brainwashed individuals.
FOR THOSE OF YOU ATTENDING,WHETHER YOUR A BIKER,BOXER,
MUSICIAN,WRITER,POET,BLUECOLLAR WORKER,ETC.....,,,,
DO NOT LET YOUR FEELINGS INTERFERE WITH YOUR MAIN GOAL!!! THE GOAL IS TO ATTEND THE MEMORIAL TO PAY RESPECT,TO THE PERSON,R.J.D, WHO MAY HAVE INFLUENCED
EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US,IN OUR OWN WAY.DO NOT REACT
TO THIS GROUP WHATSOEVER!!AS I SAID, THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A REACTION, AS IN VIOLENCE,AGRESSION,ETC....
DON'T GIVE THEM THAT CHANCE, TO USE THIS OCCASION,TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES.IF YOU DO,,, THEN YOU ARE THE ONE'S
WHO WILL LOOK BAD.
Please use your common sense.
all the best to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend is asking for a peaceful assembly (non-violent anti-protest) through a facebook event invitation.
The church sues everyone that attacks them so its a really stupid idea to raise a hand against the church folks. Dio's family loses out twice if violence breaks out. So, duh... control yourself.
If you can restrain your actions, then you are welcome to attend. If not, then stay away from the funeral and seek professional help for the anger issues.
Man this really brings a bad name to Christians. Their intentions are reasonable, but they really blaspheme the name of a man for what he's done. His effect upon music and culture and the like are unchangeable. This group is wasting their time here. Also, they are downcasting the name of the dead (scripture says this is a no-no). This man has left his mark on the world; but, God and God only will judge his character after his death. His debts will be paid; or his rewards will be given. It is not our place to pass judgment upon him. As for the marks he's left, should any of them be truly heretical, the people idolizing them will pay their debts as well. I think that this church needs to rethink their position. This action will not make the world a more godly place, it will do just the opposite.
Also, heavy metal can be for Christians too...
God bless, stay (SIC).
Wendy needs to have the "Patriot Riders" at the service. They have stopped the westboro baptist freaks at other services..can you believe that these westboro idiots picket our fallen men and women who have died for our country!!! And now they have the balls to want to picket our fallen Voice of Metal!!!! Patriot Riders..google them..
May 23 2010 at 10:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyRockers run them out! Send those needy misguided souls packin'. No violence though some cold soup over their heads should do it. Hey WBC you are not even practicing your own words. Nimrods hiding behind the book. He sees you and he knows what you have done. You will get a rude awakening if you dare show up at this memorial. Just say no.
