The Cure, 'Lovesong (Live)' -- Song Premiere
- Posted on May 24th 2010 11:00AM by Benjy Eisen
When the Cure first released 'Lovesong' as part of their classic 1989 album 'Disintegration,' it was originally intended as a vow of sorts from frontman Robert Smith to his fiancée. With such lyrics as "However far away/I will always love you," the song became something of an optimistic anthem for lovers and appeared on countless high school mix tapes, especially around prom time. And so it was that the band that everybody thought was all gloom and doom broke through with a song about love's eternal flame. When the Cure perform the song now, more than two decades later, certain lyrics have taken on new meaning ("When I am with you/you make me feel like I am young again") but the song is still just as poignant and direct as it was 20 years ago. A vibrant live version from the upcoming 'Disintegration' reissue is actually a remix from the 1989 live album, 'Entreat Plus, recorded at Wembley Stadium. The new 'Disintegration (Deluxe Edition -- Remastered)' will be available on Tuesday, May 25. In the meantime, check out the 'Lovesong (Live)' song premiere.
