Grovesnor, 'Dan' -- Video Premiere

When Hot Chip drummer Rob Smoughton decided to step out front to lead his own band, Grovesnor, he consciously created some guidelines for the music. "I hope that the themes and the stories in my songs feel ageless," Smoughton tells Spinner. "That's what I'm going for." He also confesses to creating Grovesnor as a sort of alter-ego, anti-hero, first-person narrator for his songs, which appear on the band's debut, 'Soft Return.'So when it came time to film the music video for 'Dan,' it was only natural that Smoughton wanted it to preserve the timeless quality he was going for. That means no iPads, iPhones or iPods. "We wanted to make a video that looked as though it could have been made any time in the last 20 to 30 years," he says. "There are no showy computer effects -- just great camera angles, lighting and editing. And the sets were dressed in the same ageless way."
As for the timelessness of the subject matter, you could play 'Dan' back-to-back with the Cars' 'My Best Friend's Girl' from 1978 and it would make perfect sense lyrically, musically, even visually. The video features James Corden and Jim ("Gerald") Howick from British sitcom 'Peep Show' -- as well as a comedic performance by "Dan the bassist." It's funny, totally worth watching and you can peep it below.

Hysterical. Very amusing and very very catchy. Nice to see a video actually telling a story for a change. Should be a hit for summer!!!
