New York Times Makes Correction to M.I.A. Article

M.I.A.A week after M.I.A.'s public feud with the New York Times and journalist Lynn Hirschberg, the newspaper has decided to put the feud to rest by issuing an official correction on Thursday.

While the 34-year-old singer/rapper's quotes were written verbatim from the interview, the way they were presented were out of context, the New York Times wrote in the Editors' Note.

"The part that begins, 'The whole point of going to the Grammys,' up to the end of the quotation, actually came first. The part that begins, 'I wasn't trying to be like Bono,' and ends, 'Give war a chance,' came later in the same interview. The article should have made clear that the two quotations came from different parts of the interview," the note said.

When an unflattering profile about M.I.A. was published in New York Times Magazine last week, the Sri Lankan artist published Hirschberg's phone number on Twitter. A few days later, she posted recordings from the interview that showed how her quotes were altered, and that she wasn't the one who ordered the infamous truffle fries, a detail that many readers thought painted M.I.A. in an elitist light. The 'Paper Planes' hitmaker also posted a song, 'I'm a Singer (Haters),' with a song she wrote describing how she feels about Hirschberg and other journalists.

Although this correction has been made, the newspaper didn't address many other parts of the article that many news outlets picked up on. Somehow, we doubt M.I.A. will accept this apology.

Rajapaksa extremism cannot be changed: Lee Kuan Yew. "I have read his speeches and I knew he was a Sinhala extremist. What else Sinhala nation wanted but International humanitarian and human rights laws and war crimes against Tamil citizens in their country by the Sri Lankan government and its armed forces.

I am a fan of MIA and I strongly believe that she is doing a RIGHT thing. She is voicing for the Voiceless Tamils of Srilanka. As she says their should be a war crime inquiry in Srilanka. Long live humanity.

M.I.A spoke with NYT from her heart and with the intention of getting out of her system for the utter violation of both international humanitarian and human rights laws and war crimes against Tamil citizens in her country of birth (her kith and kin) by the Sri Lankan government and its armed forces. It is unfortunate the journalist of the NYT, intentionally or un-intentionally focused on unflattering profile of M.I.A’s instead of genuine feeling for her long victimized, helpless, long tormented, and hapless kith and kin of her in Sri Lanka. She used and try to use her music fame to prevent a calamity to befall on her kith and kin in Sri Lanka and knowing justice delayed to the victims itself injustice to victims , this should be given compassionate consideration by the Journalist in fact should be commended for M.I.A for being brave enough to venture on merky water of politics.

It is now civilized thing for the journalist to say sorry for what misdeed happens and M.I.A to do the mutual and move on. M.I.A has great talent, this incident should not deter from what her stand as far as oppressed people concern and journalist should not fear in connecting with hearts to bring the truth of oppressed people too.

The following background emotional information should be understood by the journalist too. The latest world figure joined in calling for international probe into Sri Lanka’s war crimes against Tamils including slaughtering of 40,000 or more and maiming 50,000 more including tens of thousands of children is Philip Alston, Special UN Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions in his annual report to the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council (HRC). Already his boss, International Crisis Group (ICG), Human Rights Watch (HRW), and Amnesty International provided ample evidence including U.K. based Channel 4 news under cover report accurately pointing Sri Lanka should be served with the notice for “War Crime”. One of the main reason world at large still sitting idle, un like any other case, Tamils lack world famous celebrities not sowing interest in the long suffering of Tamils in Sri Lankan in the hands of Sinhala Majority community. M.I.A being the one of the music fame, she is affected by the man made tragedy of Himalaya swept under the carpet; just because of it is not coming out from “Horses Mouth”.

I think MIA is being demonized by the globalist bankster press because of her stand against them.

You Rock Girl!!
Keep the fire going. You did a good job to correct the facts.
See how these journalist twist and turn the truth, and come up with lies to discredit artists.

Don't this journalist listen to Channel 4 news and explore the truth about the happenings in Sri Lanka. It seems that journalist too are jealous.

It is strange that journalist give there own version of the ongoing news.

Yes M.I.A got motivation either for her song or for her life from Sri Lanka violence. It is people should go in to the bigger part of the violence in the modern world.

Her songs include the modern world and its flaws, the falling and failing governments, people material oriented lifestyle and its problems, the resultant genocides.

It is the New York times to decide........it is not just increasing the number of copies sold. It is the truth it contains.....

M.I.A have conveyed may be a rebel who fight for voiceless people......who have conveyed to the en masse within the bound or present law and order of the states..

That is mostly of a duty of a journal. I hope that is being done be Channel 4 News.

New York time got in the carpet of capitalistic culture.

A journal is a journal and a journalist is a journalit. Not a captital or capitalist.
