Phil Selway, Radiohead's usually undemonstrative sticksman, has announced the release date of his debut solo album.Set for release on Aug. 30, 'Familial' is to come out on Bella Union, the label that has put out records by Fleet Foxes and Beach House among others.
The label describes the album as "a collection of sublimely fragile, haunting and heartfelt songs." Selway produced the record with Ian Davenport, resident engineer and producer at his main band's Courtyard Studios.
Selway has brought in support from musicians he worked with on Neil Finn's charity project 7 Worlds Collide in New Zealand. The double album the collective recorded for Oxfam, 2009's 'The Sun Came Out,' included the drummer's singing debut on 'The Ties That Bind Us.'
A version of that number is set to appear on 'Familial,' for which Selway has brought in some other mainstays from 7 Worlds Collide -- singer/songwriter Lisa Germano, former Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg and two members of Wilco, drummer Glenn Kotche and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone.
As reported in Spinner, Radiohead have been holed up in Los Angeles where they have been recording the follow up to 2007's 'In Rainbows.'
