If She and Him's recent take on Ricky Nelson's heartache staple 'Fools Rush In' for Levi's Pioneer Sessions wasn't enough, Brooklyn indie sensations Dirty Projectors have now stepped up to offer an intriguing take on Bob Dylan's 1968 number 'I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine.' As Pitchfork reports, it's all part of the clothing manufacturer's ongoing series to promote its wares by offering free downloads of modern performers covering influential material.Hip-hop heavyweight Nas lauched the series with a reworking of Slick Rick's 'Hey Young World' and the Swell Season also contributed their rendition of Candi Staton's 1976 pop obscurity 'Young Hearts Run Free.' Future Pioneer Sessions covers are expected from the Shins, the Kills, Passion Pit and a pairing of John Legend and the Roots, who recently recorded with Dirty Projectors' three female vocalists.
Projectors ringleader Dave Longstreth does a pretty impressive Dylan impersonation, and if you're a DP fan anticipating the follow-up to last year's 'Bitte Orca,' this should satisfy you for the moment. Check out their version of 'St. Augustine' here.
