Rage Against the Machine Play Free Victory Gig in London

It was one of the most widely-anticipated gigs to have been played in London and Rage Against the Machine were given a heroes' welcome when they took the stage at Finsbury Park, North London, on Sunday, June 6, in celebration of securing the 2009 Christmas No. 1.The agit-rockers had promised to play a free gig if their anthem, 'Killing in the Name,' secured pole position last December. It took the top slot after a Facebook campaign was launched to prevent 'X Factor' winner Joe McElderry taking the top slot with his version of Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb.'
Having torn through 'Testify' and 'Bombtrack,' singer Zac de la Rocha introduced Facebook campaign organisers, husband and wife Jon and Tracy Morter. Hailed by Tom Morello as "great political strategists", the guitarist went on to explain how the couple inspired the band to donate all the profits of the single to homeless charity Shelter.
Rage Against the Machine also doffed their caps to the Clash by playing an explosive cover of the punk godheads' classic, 'White Riot.'
But it was the encore that 40,000 people waited for. Having completed their main set, Rage Against the Machine returned to the stage to the strains of McElderry's 'The Climb' to detonate an already combustible crowd with the anthemic 'Killing in the Name.'
Rage Against the Machine played:
'Testify'
'Bombtrack'
'People of the Sun
'Know Your Enemy'
'Bulls on Parade'
'Township Rebellion'
'Bullet in the Head'
'White Riot'
'Guerilla Radio'
'Sleep Now in the Fire'
'Freedom'
'Killing In The Name'
