Supergrass Drummer Danny Goffey to Play for Babyshambles

Former Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey will temporarily occupy Babyshambles' drummer stool after it was confirmed drummer Adam Ficek had quit the troubled band. A statement from Babyshambles spokesperson read, "Babyshambles have parted company with drummer Adam Ficek. Currently booked Babyshambles commitments will take place with Danny Goffey of Supergrass filling in on drums."
As reported on Spinner, Babyshambles enraged a number of their fans when frontman Pete Doherty and guitarist Mick Whitnall appeared onstage in London back in April with an unnamed drummer and bassist. Despite protests from the fans, Doherty explained that the anonymous rhythm section were current members of the band though the announcement of Goffey's participation clearly contradicts this.
The future of Babyshambles was thrown in doubt after Doherty confirmed the reunion of his former alma mater, the Libertines, who are scheduled to appear this year's Reading and Leeds festivals. The gigs will mark the first time the band have played together since Doherty's drug problems caused the rest of his bandmates to fire him in 2004.
However, a tour schedule on the Babyshambles website seems to suggest that the Libertines may not have that much of a future after the band collects its pay packet after completing their festival commitments.
Supergrass recently announced their split after 17 years together and are to play their farewell tour this week with their last-ever gig scheduled for La Cigalle in Paris on Friday, June 11.
