The use of stop-motion animation doesn't happen in music videos too often these days, but that didn't dissuade Bronx-based singer-songwriter Jann Klose from imploring the technique in the video for his song 'Doing Time.' To help him out, Klose wrangled students from the New York Film Academy, where they spent time with student Tamara Gunashvili and director Addison Neville. "They had this idea to use stop motion to create this disconnect with the outside world," Klose tells Spinner. Klose says some 9,000 still images were taken all together and were then pared down to approximately 4,000 for the video. "It's not like it's shooting like a film camera, where it's 30 frames per second. It's a fast shutter which is what creates that effect."
'Doing Time' comes from Klose's latest release, 'Reverie,' and sounds a bit like David Gray or even sparks of later Elliott Smith (although not as depressing). Here Klose details a life-crisis situation involving growing up and punching the clock -- aka "doing time." "It was one of those songs, where parts came easy and parts came really hard," he says. A melody, some lyrics and 9,000 photos stills, Klose has finally done his time in getting this song out there. Check it out below.
