Keane to Play Surprise Acoustic Glastonbury Set

Glastonbury is one of those festivals that instills something akin to a religious fervour -- how else to explain the hundreds of thousands of fans who hit the phones on a bleary-eyed Sunday morning when the tickets go on sale every October? But, as exemplified by Keane, it's not just the punters who are this -- ahem -- keen on the three-day event. The trio have announced plans that they are to play a surprise acoustic set on the Avalon Stage on the afternoon of Sunday, June 27 despite the fact that the gig lands smack in the middle if their own tour -- the band is scheduled to appear at sold-out forest shows in Yorkshire and Staffordshire on the Friday and Saturday nights of the festival.
"We've been going to Glastonbury as punters for years now" explains Keane frontman Tom Chaplin in a statement. "I love it there -- we all do. The atmosphere simply cannot be beaten and it's the best place to stumble upon all sorts of amazing acts."
He continued, "The festival clashes with our UK Forest Tour this year but we really wanted to get involved with their 40th anniversary celebrations so at the last minute we've decided to play an acoustic set on the Avalon Stage on Sunday afternoon. We'll be arriving during the early hours of Sunday morning so will get to enjoy the last day of the festival too."
The Glastonbury Festival is held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England on June 25 to 27.
