Feeder's World Cup Gig of Two Halves
- Posted on Jun 15th 2010 9:30AM by Julian Marszalek
Feeder took the spirit of the World Cup and delivered a set of two halves as they launched their forthcoming album, 'Renegades,' in the sweaty and intimate environs of North London's 200-capacity Barfly venue on the afternoon of Monday, June 14. And, to celebrate Japan's opening World Cup game against Cameroon, Feeder gave fans free bottles of Asahi beer and shots of saki. The first set gave eager fans a taste of what to expect from the new album as eight songs were given a public airing. And while Feeder have hardly strayed far from their tried-and-tested, loud-quiet-loud dynamic, their ability to remain on intimate terms with the winning concepts of melody and hooks is still intact. 'Barking Dogs' sprang from the traps while 'Sentimental' and the new single, 'Call Out,' lingered in the memory long after the band departed to watch the match.
With Cameroon beaten 1- 0 by Japan, Feeder then took the stage for a second set of fan favourites including 'Come Back Around,' 'Breed' and a second outing for the new album's title track which, by this point, felt as if it had been around for as long as the rest of the established material. Moreover, Feeder can congratulate themselves for delivering a seventh album that feels like something from much earlier in their career.
