Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Mos Def and More Team for Gulf Aid Single
- Posted on Jun 15th 2010 1:38PM by Linda Laban

To reflect the current disaster, Mos Def and Preservation Hall's Ben Jaffe reworked the lyrics to the song. "Said, from the gulf of Mexico to the broke levee wall/Something gone wrong and it's somebody's fault/Aw, it ain't my fault," goes the refrain, nodding to BP's initial lack of response to what has been called one of the biggest oil spills in history.
Unlike recent lightning rods like the Haiti earthquake and sthe Arizona immigration controvery, the music community at large has been slow to respond to the Gulf Coast tragedy. Korn and the Backstreet Boys announced their tours would boycott BP stations and the Gulf Aid All-Stars were among the performers at May's Concert for the Coast benefit in New Orleans, which raised over $300,000, a trifling amount given the oil spill's devastation.
Several days prior to the Gulf Aid concert, the musicians recorded the song during a late-night jam at Preservation Hall. 'Ain't my Fault' is available via iTunes as a single or video, with all proceeds being distributed by the Gulf Relief Foundation, a nonprofit focused on wetland and coastal environmental issues and the regional seafood industry.
