Robyn Overcomes Frustration With 'Body Talk' Album Series

This could be the year of Robyn, as the Swedish pop diva plans on releasing not one, not two, but three separate albums this year. "It's not an attempt to become part of the Guinness Record Book of artists releasing crazy amounts of albums," she tells Spinner, laughing. Starting with 'Body Talk Part 1,' which is out now, Robyn's run of albums was the result of needing some time away from the road. "The idea came from frustration at not being able to be in the studio as much as I would've liked to," she says. "It was a great problem to have because I was on tour with the last album for about four years because people loved it. That was awesome."
Basically, after years of making music and being a former teen-pop star, Robyn exploded on the international pop scene with the song 'With Every Heartbeat' going to No. 1. As she says, it was a great problem to have but it left her exasperated. "The last album, I made it in 2005 and I toured with it all the way up until 2008. It was awesome doing that because the record was so well-received, both over here and in America," she says. "I really found my audience in the States with this record, so it's been great. But I also felt it was frustrating not to be able to record and write for such a long time."
For her, it's also a way to take advantage of the brave new world of digital music. "It's all changing with the internet again and artists have a lot of direct contact. Things are moving so fast on the net," she says. "I can go get into new music all the time, listen to a lot of music, so, for me, this feels totally natural."It's also going to keep things very interesting for her as the touring progresses and she gets closer to releasing 'Body Talk Part 2,' which for now is targeted for the end of the summer. "As soon as the record's ready and I know what's going to be on there, I'm going to start playing those songs live, which is going to be nice," she says. "People will find out as soon as I know."
