U2's Cancelled Tour to Cost Them Millions

U2 are reportedly facing losses of up to £100 million ($148 million) as a result of the cancellation of their world tour this year, brought about by Bono undergoing emergency back surgery.

U2's mammoth 2010 world tour was put on hold, and a headlining slot at Glastonbury was cancelled, after Bono was admitted to hospital last month. The effects on their bank balance look set to be severe.

The band's manager Paul McGuinness told The Sun, "If we play or not, touring still costs us £500,000 ($741,000) a day."

A band insider is also quoted as saying, "Bono and the band are covered by insurance but the costs of overheads and missed revenue could easily reach £100 million by the time he's fit enough to tour again."

News of U2's tour deficit comes days after it emerged that bass player Adam Clayton is to sue the band's financial controller for alleged negligence.

Meanwhile, the band are set to announce their rearranged tour dates this week. The Edge has previously stated that live dates would resume in August.

people with negative comments to a excellent band that has been around for not 10 years, not 20 years, but over thirty years. Yes this show cost alot of money to put on but they are doing it for thier fans, its better then going to see Britney or Ga Ga change outfits 70 times or some rap group that has zero talent. I also love the negative comments about how much money they have.. guess what they have earned every dime!!! This is a band your children can listen to and look up to, that have worked hard and honestly made thier fortune (with thier clothes on)

It amazes me to see all the negative comments here, it's obvious that you all don't know a damned thing about U2. They have traveled to every area of this planet (and I'm not referring to concert tours either!) and have done what they can to help people that are oppressed, neglected, etc. They have stood up for people and they don't get paid to do it either. You all should be ashamed of yourselves, bashing people who do good. What have you done for your fellow human??

Hey avms, have you been nipping at bad moonshine? (Like there's such a thing as GOOD moonshine?) The name Outlaw Country suggests to me that their playlist consists of country tunes a la Charlie Daniels, while U2 is NOT a COUNTRY band, they are a ROCK band (in fact, they are from Europe), which would explain why you don't hear them on that station.

I am a huge fan of U2 but even if I wasnt--to heck with your thoughts on Bono etc. what about the cities losing the money, vendors, ushers, parking lot moneys, tourism, truck drivers and behind the scenes employees who make any concert work? its not just 4 people in a band. I have tickets to see them in another state this summer including plane and hotel. so again, this isnt just impacting 4 people. big summer tours mean big money for many people and cities and it means jobs.

I saw U2 perform at the Thomas and Mack center in Las Vegas in 1986. I was twenty years old, and wasn't at all interested in the political speech he gave.

Later I came to realize that if you attend a U2 concert, its a part of the performance. But what I think people like Bono doesn't realize is that his cause may not be somebodies elses, and just becaues he's in the position of speaking before thousands of people, he isn't necessarily going to influence someone's political belief's.

Bono isn't an expert on something just because he talks about it. Its simply his belief's and his opinions.

I can understand that Bono Had back Surgery and i wish him well. But the fact that Ticketmaster and their promoters are not issuing refunds to customers because they want to keep their money. I personally had tickets to the show on 6/12 and wanted to go on that date. I do not wish to wait around till they decide to "rearrange" the show dates. They don't take into consideration that people take time off to go see these shows and now have to change their schedule to accommodate their changes. They should just refund everyone's money and just resell the tickets once they set up the new tour dates!
