Brian Wilson 'to Rejoin Beach Boys,' Says Mike Love

After decades of bad blood, recriminations and law suits, Brian Wilson is set to reunite with the other surviving members of the Beach Boys -- Mike Love and Al Jardine -- to mark the 50th anniversary of the band's inception, according to comments by Love in the Las Vegas Sun.

Love still performs under the Beach Boys name alongside another veteran member, Bruce Johnston. Wilson made a triumphant return to the spotlight in 2002 when he performed the 'Pet Sounds' album in full at London's Royal Festival Hall, and in 2004 performed his incomplete masterpiece 'Smile' at the same venue. He has sporadically toured since then.

Love said, "We're gearing up for the 50th anniversary and Brian Wilson, who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin music project, will rejoin us.

"I'm sad that Carl Wilson passed away 11, 12 years ago from the same lung cancer problem that claimed the life of George Harrison. That was not a fun time for us."

The surviving Beach Boys last appeared publicly in 2006 for a press conference marking 40 years since 'Pet Sounds'. Of the original members, Carl Wilson died of cancer in 1998 and Dennis Wilson drowned in 1983.

Love, who once described 'Smile' as a "whole album of Brian's madness," also spoke about the current incarnation of the Beach Boys, saying, "We're still out there doing 150 shows a year, and the sound has reached all the way around the globe.

"Close your eyes and not only do we today replicate exactly how the original songs sounded, but the technology has gotten better so we even sound better.

"Yes, the line-up has changed over the years, but it's been pretty consistent the past several years."

Ray, your full of hops! Mike Love was a big contributor for the Beach Boys. He did most of the singing and has a great voice. So put your brain in the right place before shooting your mouth off about a wonderful musician and very friendly man such as Mike Love. When you wrote your comment were you having a bad day??

Tour isn't confirmed. This is from Brian's Website:

As The Beach Boys approach 2011-2012 touring season, which will mark their 50th anniversary as a band, speculation continues to grow among fans and media as to reunion possibilities among all the original surviving members. In response to recent stories Mike Love had the following comments: "The Beach Boys continue to tour approximately 150 shows a year in multiple countries. At this time there are no plans for my cousin Brian to rejoin the tour. He has new solo projects on the horizon and I wish him love and success. We have had some discussions of writing and possibly recording together, but nothing has been planned. I, as I¹m sure he is, am proud and honored that The Beach Boys music has endured these 50 years, but felt the need to clarify that there are no current 'reunion' tour plans."

It's about the music not all the other bullshit..Nothing would be finer to have these cats get together again... Brian,Mike,Al,Bruce, and lets throw Marx in the mix,he was there from the start. Don't forget Al jardines sons, doing some great back up harmony. And the Wilson sisters! Now that would be one ROCKIN show! Fun Fun Fun

It's only fitting! For a band to be around 50 years and three different factions are still playing, why not get them all together for one more tour....fantastic! Brian, Bruce, Alan, Mike, and hopefully David Marks, too. Hopefully, they use Brian's band for backup. If not, bring back Billy Hinche, Ed Carter, Matt Jardine, Jeff Foskett, and Bobby Figeroa. Now, let's get the NFL to make them the Half-time show!

I think that all the legal mumbo jumbo over Mike Love and Brian Wilson and who contributed what is just a bunch of BS. Mike Love and the current Beach Boys band cranks out 150 plus shows a year at 1 hr and a half ea. Mostly the same hits. Sometimes a past member like John Stamos will appear, the shows are good and I always go when they come to town. Brian I have seen 3 times, all three shows were remarkably different, including a 1 stop eve. in Scottsdale recently where he sang "Custom Machine" I have yet to see Al Jardine and his band. Brian Wilson was and is the huge creative force behind the Beach Boys music, Mike Love a creative force in his own right as well as the other band members. I am glad they are getting together, and can't wait to go see them.

I'm always elated when groups get back together who brought us so much great music. And I have always been a fan of the Beach Boys. But a few short years ago, I heard them perform on TV for the opening of a Nascar event. I was doing the dishes, and couldn't believe my ears!!! Were these imposters? They were horrible. Off key, and just seemed to not be able to hit the notes. Granted, as we get older, our voices get lower, but in today's world, it's simple to push a button on musical equipment and lower the key. I hope they review the taping of that event and make adjustments accordingly. I would love to hear them in their original sound once again.

We'll see how long this lasts. Brian has been spoiled rotten the last 11 years, playing with the band of his dreams - the band that could replicate all of Brian's music in a way the original Beach Boys simply could not. Mike Love has ridden on Brian's coattails his whole life. I'm sure Al is thrilled since he can't get arrested on his own. I hope they will include Al's son Matt in this line-up. Matt's the best high harmony singer of all the 2nd generation "Beach Boys".

As shown on recent appearance on shows, the Beach Boys best not try being as they were years ago, they will only embarrass themselves. They were great in their day, but have recently been sickly. They are not the 4 Seasons that have made billions with The Jersey Boys. They at least got many talented singers to play their parts. Brian Wilson acts high on drugs or drunk most of the time. Time to retire for good before they ruin their formula with the Music. Time to lip sync or something, not try to sing their songs.
