New Beck Material Will Be Debuted by Fictional Band in 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World'

The soundtrack for the upcoming theatrical release 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World' (advertised as "an epic of epic epicness") will feature new music by Beck...even if his name doesn't appear on the majority of his contributions, per-se. According to Pitchfork, Beck wrote the songs and recorded the instruments for fictional Canadian rock band Sex Bob-Omb. The ever-charming Michael Cera portrays Scott Pilgrim, Sex Bob-Omb's bassist and the hero of this tale. Beck will handle Cera's actual bass parts, letting the actor focus on doing what he does best: winning hearts (both in the movie and beyond).Of course, being based on a comic book and all, there's a rival band involved -- Crash and the Boys. This second fictional band will be portrayed in the film by real-life Canadian heroes Broken Social Scene. Looks like this flick just secured some serious street cred.
Additional artists on the soundtrack -- all of whom will appear as themselves -- include Metric, Frank Black and the Black Lips. Catalog selections by T-Rex ('Teenage Dream') and the Rolling Stones ('Under My Thumb') are also featured on the soundtrack, which will be released on August 10. 'Scott Pilgrim Versus the World' hits the silver screen on August 13. As previously reported, superstar producer and Atoms for Peace multi-instrumentalist Nigel Godrich scored the film and produced the soundtrack.
In the tale, Sex Bob-Omb's music is supposed to kinda suck. We're guessing Beck didn't stick to the script for that one.
