Lou Reed is set to join Gorillaz when the cartoon band headline Glastonbury this Friday, June 25, along with a host of other artists who collaborated with Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett on recent album 'Plastic Beach.'Albarn confirmed to presenter John Wilson on the BBC Radio 4 programme 'Down The Front' on Wednesday night, June 23, that the 68-year-old former Velvet Underground curmudgeon will be making an appearance, saying, "Lou Reed's arriving and, fingers crossed, coming straight to rehearsal. Then we watch the game [England's clash with Slovenia in the football World Cup]."
Albarn added that he has concerns about the fan response to their much-anticipated set, which only came about after U2 were forced to cancel due to Bono's emergency back surgery.
"This morning I woke up and the first thing I felt a wave of anxiety about -- is an audience that size going to respond to our songs? I don't know."
Other talent scheduled to appear with Gorillaz includes Mos Def, Mark E. Smith, Kano, Snoop Dogg, Shaun Ryder, De La Soul, Pharcyde and Gruff Rhys. Snoop Dogg and Mos Def are performing sets of their own at the 40th Glastonbury festival.
