Guster's Brian Rosenworcel Recalls Covering Michael Jackson

Towards the end of his life, it was easy to overlook Michael Jackson's enormous influence -- or, at least, take it for granted -- while his personal exploits took the spotlight. But, a year after his death, the true impact of Jackson's career is still felt in every corner of the musical universe. Take, for example, alternative rock band Guster. You'd be hard pressed to compare the Massachusetts band's sound, songwriting, fashion or live theatrics to those of Jackson's. On the surface, they share nothing in common. And, yet, like almost every other professional musician the world over, the guys in Guster can still recall moments when they were personally affected by Jackson's music. "'PYT' used to blow my mind when the computerized voice came in," drummer Brian Rosenworcel tells Spinner. But that's not all -- like countless others, Rosenworcel has even covered Jackson's material live. "I once played 'Billie Jean' at a wedding and it could have gone on for hours without me losing interest."
The insane thing is that the guests wouldn't have lost interest, either, and almost all of them would probably be out on the dance floor, singing along. Further proof, once again, that Michael Jackson really was, is and always will be the true King of Pop.
