James Blunt Aims to Break Highest-Ever Gig World Record
- Posted on Jun 25th 2010 7:45AM by Chris Cope
James Blunt is set to try and break the World Record for the highest-ever live gig.The singer-songwriter will play on board a Boeing 757 on Tuesday, 29 June, as part of a event organised by UK radio station Heart FM, reports Music-News.com.
He will serenade 150 'lucky' Heart FM listeners at a height of 41,000 feet (12,424 metres), as well as guests of RSA Insurance, who are sponsoring the event -- dubbed Great Gig in the Sky -- as part of their 300th anniversary celebrations.
Willing participants will have to try and win tickets for the record-breaking event by listening on-air and and online.
Heart FM is the UK's biggest commerical radio network - with recent RAJAR figures indicating that the network has enjoyed an increase of 105,000 listeners over the past year.
James Blunt, however, has seen his popularity wane somewhat over the past few years. The wheels were in motion even in 2008 when Noel Gallagher apparently sold his new Ibiza home because of Blunt constantly "banging on about Ibiza" and had "taken the charm out of it," as previously reported by Spinner.

I don't even know who he is! NEVER even heard of him. But good luck anyway. I don't even think I would want to go.

This is cool accomplishment for James Blunt, he used a private jet hire specialist that works with music industry professionals to help achieve this record. Does the voice sound different at altitude? About him taking control of the joystick - he sure can as he obtained his private pilots licence when he was 16!

People buy her trash and all she'll ever be is a can't sing madonna wanta be! So sing away jimmy boy and when you're done I'm sure all those people who were on the plane will be forever happy about the fact that the tickets were free!! The Duke has spoken!!!

June 27 2010 at 5:40 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm not a big fan of Blunt's, but I'd really like to know how many of the people posting negative comments on his music have had bigger success as singer-songwriters than he has. I'm guessing not a lot, because musicians that are worth anything tend to take the high road when commenting on others because they've actually been there and speak professionally of one another. If you really can't create your own music, and you don't have anything good to say...then keep your insults to yourselves.

June 26 2010 at 10:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBlunt's had his 15 minutes already. C'mon, Heart ... choose someone else! The has-been won't do your station's image any good at all ...
