Faltermeyer named this unlikely (and only) synth-pop hit after Axel Foley, Eddie Murphy's character in the film. Completing the concept, the song was recorded in the keys of F major and F minor. Those Germans are so clever! -- JP

Sure, Buffalo Bill had a fetish for wearing human skins -- and God knows what he did with the other body parts -- but dude had a wicked CD collection. His superfreaky dance number in 'Silence of the Lambs' made us squirm, but it also unearthed a haunting tune by an obscure drag singer, which has now become a staple in hipster DJ sets. -- MTC
49. Geto Boys, 'Still' ('Office Space,' 1999)
Seems that 'Boyz 'N the Hood' have a lot in common with Boys in the Cubicles. The hook to this "beat for the beating" from the Geto Boys is savage, but doesn't hit nearly as hard as Michael Bolton's fist as it pummels a 30 GB hard drive in 'Office Space.' Download THIS, b----! -- MTC

48. The Creation, 'Making Time' ('Rushmore,' 1998)
Director Wes Anderson loves his montages, but this survey of Max Fischer's 18 extracurricular activities (including bee keeping, skeet shooting and calligraphy) in 'Rushmore' is his masterpiece. The Creation's 1966 mod-rock classic adds just the right edge for the most dangerous nerd in school. -- JP
