Singer Dan Auerbach didn't miss the opportunity to pay tribute to iconic broadcaster Peel, who died in 2004 after decades of broadcasting on BBC Radio 1. "We never had anybody like John Peel in the States," said Auerbach. "You people are really lucky."
Peel's patronage of the Black Keys was shrewdly judged, and the band proved to be a perfect choice for a swelteringly hot Glastonbury. '10AM Automatic' summoned the spirit of Jimi Hendrix, with Auerbach showing his developing skills as a vocalist.
The Black Keys still managed to exude a blue-eyed soul amid the grit and texture -- qualities that are often in short supply at Glastonbury.
