The 52-year old German composer whose previous work includes 'The Dark Knight' score -- for which he won his most recent Grammy -- enlisted Marr to play guitar on what Zimmer described in a joint statement as "a very electronic score."
He added, "There is orchestra, but the electronics share an equal spotlight, and I also have Johnny Marr playing guitar. Besides Johnny and the orchestra, everything else stays virtual throughout the mix."
For Marr, working with the Oscar-winner was a goal realised, "I enjoyed working on 'Inception', it's a great soundtrack. Hans invited me and he's someone I've wanted to work with for a long time. We really got into it, it's a really good movie."
It's not Marr's first soundtrack involvement this year -- the former Smiths-turned-Cribs man composed the music for 'The Big Bang,' a Tony Kratz-directed film due for release in the autumn.
