New Young Pony Club Want to Remix 'Empire State of Mind'

Although most people at this point can put Jay-Z's 'Empire State of Mind' onto their "overplayed songs" list, New Young Pony Club believe they've found a way to refresh the popular track. Known for remixing songs like Gossip's 'Jealous Girls' and Amy Winehouse's 'Tears Dry on Their Own,' frontwoman Tahita Bulmer thinks that it would be a lot of fun playing around with the song. "I would cut up the vocals and put it over something electro but really deep, maybe not the rap but more of the Alicia Keys sort of vocals," Bulmer tells Spinner. "That would be nice."
Bulmer also admitted she'd love to attempt remixing David Bowie's 'Let's Dance' but isn't sure how successful that would be. "I'd love to do a remix of 'Let's Dance,' but it would be really hard to do anything that's better than the original," she says.
Although the band is currently touring Europe, Bulmer admits that New Young Pony Club miss performing in the US.
"I would absolutely love to come back," Bulmer says. "We have such a warm welcome from US audiences when we played in autumn of 2007, especially in LA and York. The response we got was incredible. The people were roaring and throwing the chairs around."
Since splitting from Modular Recordings, the band has found it harder to plan a tour overseas, since they'd need to fund it themselves. "Obviously when we are financing ourselves, it really is a case of finding somebody to sponsor us to come back," Bulmer says. "The cost of touring in the States for a UK band doing it by themselves is quite prohibitive. I mean just getting the visas so we can play without getting arrested is hard, but we would love to come back."
New Young Pony Club's latest record, 'The Optimist', is available now.
