"We got the band back together. Not the original line-up -- the classic line-up," Pollard tells Spinner. "It's better than the original line-up: Tobin Sprout and Mitch Mitchell [guitars], Kevin Fennel [drums] and Greg Demos [bass]."
As they're set to join other mid-'90s Matador alums Pavement and Liz Phair, Pollard says Guided by Voices will mainly focus on material from that era as well. "We'll be performing songs from the albums 'Propeller,' 'Bee Thousand,' 'Alien Lanes' and 'Under the Bushes Under the Stars' as well as from singles and EPs from that era."
Since GBV's disbanding at the end of 2004, Pollard himself has kept up the wealth of material that was typical for him and his bandmates over their career. In the last four years, he's released nine proper solo albums with the 10th due out July 6.
Entitled 'Moses on a Snail,' the album features 12 new Pollard tracks, of which Guided by Voices fan Eddie Vedder describes as "too f---ing good." For any impatient fans, check out an exclusive listen to the song 'Arrows and Balloons' below.
